Resolutions and Healthy Food

Resolutions and Healthy Food

How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? At our house, we have not had resolutions per se, but we are continually trying to improve our lifestyle and be healthy.  Resolutions seem to set you up for failure.  They are so definitive. Just the word resolution sounds like it has no leeway.

“If you don’t do this, then you have broken the resolution and failed.”

Resolutions have little grace.  So maybe the better question is how are you living healthier?

Healthy Food or Not?

Laura watches a lot of YouTube cooking videos – some is healthy food and some is unhealthy.  I like both.  Recently, Laura has been cooking more.  (She cooks a lot, but she has been cooking even more.). She has been making pre-made, healthy lunches for both of us. It has been good.

“When you get discouraged in doing something healthy or good, keep persevering.”

We did have a slip up though.  After eating a few, Laura’s stomach was upset for a couple of days.  She thought it was the food.  She was discouraged.  But we continued to persevere.  Laura kept making the meals, and we both ate them.  A few days later, I had the same symptoms.  We surmised that it couldn’t be the food because I had eaten many different meals since her bout with it. It must have been a mild stomach bug.

So in the beginning, we had the notion that the healthy food was making us sick.  But after further thought, we were able to re-frame our thinking.  We thought, “Maybe the healthy food enabled us to fight the stomach bug better.” The symptoms were so mild we were not even sure if we were sick.

When you get discouraged in doing something healthy or good, keep persevering.  Keep being healthy.  The Bible says in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
