Mental Health Crisis Resources

A frequent conversation that I have is about resources and mental health options, especially in a crisis. I have this discussion with my clients, people who email or call us, and family and friends. We have lists of resources at our office, but I felt like it would be good to better organize this list.

The purpose of this article is to inform people local to the Mooresville area about the available mental health resources. Note that this list is not complete, but rather the best I can do in such a dynamic and fluctuating industry.

Nervous Breakdown (Having Suicidal Thoughts)

First of all, you can always call the Suicide Hotline at 988. It is available 24/7. Statesville Crisis Recovery Center has a 24/7 Crisis Hotline at 704-871-1045 and a Mobile Crisis Unit that will come to your location if you are in Iredell County.

In a crisis, it is hard to make well-informed decisions. If you or a loved one is having a nervous breakdown or is suicidal, then you reach out to the resources that you know. Many times, that is the local emergency room or urgent care. This may not be the best option.

If you go to a hospital where there is NOT a psychiatric or mental health unit, then you may wait in an emergency room for hours before the hospitalists decide where to send you. By going to a place that specializes in mental health treatment, you bypass spending a lot of time in a waiting room.

*Note that all of the hospitals, treatment centers, and retreats listed below are for adults (ages 18+) unless otherwise indicated.

Inpatient Mental Health Facilities (Short-Term, Secular)

For the Mooresville, NC area, I recommend going to or contacting one the following locations because they offer inpatient mental health treatment (or have a psychiatric unit.)

1. Davis Regional Medical Center

Delta Behavioral Health Unit |218 Old Mocksville Road | Statesville, NC 28625 |704-838-7450

2. Atrium Behavioral Health

     16740 Davidson-Concord Road (Hwy. 73) | Davidson, NC 28036 | 704-801-9400

3. Crisis Recovery Center (CRC)

     524 Signal Hill Drive Extension | Statesville, NC 28625 | 704-871-1045

* Note that CRC has a Mobile Crisis Unit that will come to your location and assess you and admit you if needed.

These are voluntary or involuntary psychiatric units where you will be in under the care of a psychiatrist. These are hospitals or hospital-like settings. The usual goal is to get the patient stable where they are not having suicidal thoughts and are sleeping at least for 6 hours per night. The average stay is about 3-5 days.

Along with the psychiatrist, a team of nurses and therapists will be working with you. Although some of them may be Christians, your care will come from a secular, medical model without a Christian perspective. Basically, you will learn some healthy coping skills and your medication will be adjusted so that you are at a stable level. Afterwards, you will need to seek outpatient therapy or counseling.

Inpatient Mental Health Facilities (Short & Long-Term, Christian)

Before I begin, let me explain that there are many Christian substance abuse inpatient centers, but there are very few inpatient mental health facilities that are overtly Christian.

If you are looking for a Christian mental health facility and you are not having substance abuse issues, then I recommend the following “partial hospitalization” facilities:

Average Stay: 30 days

The Honey Lake Clinic is located in Greenville, FL in a remote part of the Florida panhandle. You stay in cabins on a sprawling campus with a lake to fish and horse back riding. *They offer scholarships for clergy.

Average Stay: 41 days
